Some of our favorite items on the site are the fabulous array ofdresses. In fact, we think dresses are pretty much the perfect item of clothing. It's the one piece that works for every occasion. And you don't have to worry about tucking anything in, finding the right shoe for your pants hem, or pairing the foolproof top with the perfect bottom. You just throw it on and you're done. What could be easier than that?

From the appealing shift to the timeless shirtdress, we have them all and at amazing prices too, especially when you take advantage of the end of summer sale.

Let's take a look at 5 different types of dresses and some great examples for sale on H*O*T, below.

The Shift Dress -- This sweet and simple dress is easy to wear and always appropriate. It just skims the body and typically ends at the knee. Everyone needs a few of these no-brainers in their closet!

The Sheath Dress -- The sheath got it's name from the sheath knife since it shares the same long straight lines. It's a narrow body-con dress with measurements that are the same from bust to knee. A great choice for parties or events.

The Shirt Dress -- At first called shirtwaists, they were fashioned after men's shirts with collars, cuffs and buttons down the front. Made popular in the 50s, designer Anne Fogarty became famous for them (and boy do we have a gorgeous one by her for sale here).

The Midi Dress -- This dress which hits at mid-calf is back after a bit of a hiatus and is looking really fresh. Remember, if you're vertically challenged, be sure and pair yours with heels. Choose an A-line version which is universally flattering.

The Maxi Dress -- Maxi dresses should almost touch the ground. There's always something so "cool girl around town" about a maxi, no? Worn in the summer with breezy sandals and grounded by great booties in the fall, this dress is super versatile!
