HOT 5 - 1/29/25
Dear Hot Friends,
Here's the first Hot 5 of 2025! I plan to send them out more frequently this year and hope you'll keep opening them at the much-appreciated rate you have in the past! Each week I'll share some things that I hope will be helpful to you and I'll always do this through the lens of being 60+. Many of you have felt the pain of this first month of 2025. Filled with uncertainty, freezing temps, and general malaise, it's been tough to soldier on. But we must! Here we go:
1. Hot Style Hack Of The Week
2. This is Hot!
3. Obsession Confession
4. Shopportunities
5. Culture Club
1. Hot Hack Of The Week (For help with a current style issue or question)
It hasn't been this cold in the Northeast in a very long time, and it doesn't seem to be warming up anytime soon! How about some unique ways to stay warm?
2. This Is Hot! (What I'm featuring from the site this week)
Chinese New Year starts this week and the Year of the Snake slithers in with a sparkle—snakes symbolize renewal, wisdom, and transformation. And snakes as you know are a favorite jewelry motif, like our perfectly chic gold snake ring.
3. Obsession Confession (The thing I can't stop thinking about)
I can't get enough oversized flower brooches! I blame American designer Willie Chavarria whose gorgeous menswear designs are often embellished with extra-large red rose pins. Truthfully, I've always loved an oversized brooch as you can see in the photo of my collection above. I can barely get a coat over my newest purchase, an enormous felted flower in of-the-moment burgundy. The Dries Van Noten Fall '25 menswear collection featured big blooms too!
4. Shopportunities (A shopping experience you need to know about!)
Have you heard of Coming Soon? It's a delightful resource for fun, imaginative gifts and furniture. The store located in the buzzworthy Chinatown area of downtown Manhattan is a fabulously curated mix of new and vintage pieces that are designed to make you smile and say "I need that!" If you can't make it to the colorful boutique, check out the website.
5. Culture Club (Not to be missed cultural moments!)
I cannot overstate how much I enjoyed taking in the exhibit, Edges Of Ailey, at the Whitney Museum! The blockbuster exhibition was the first to celebrate the legacy of visionary dancer and choreographer Alvin Ailey. The genius curation brings together visual art, live performance, music, archival materials, and a multi-screen video installation to explore Ailey’s personal and creative life. Run to catch this incredible exhibit which ends Feb 9th!
