HOT 5 - 10/9/22

Hello Hot Friends,

Now that our last 70-degree day for a while seems to be in our rearview window, is everyone else busy making the seasonal closet switch? Ugh, it's always a chore, no? If you're struggling refer to this Hot Post for some helpful tips. This year I've made a promise to myself that instead of tackling accessories as an afterthought I will start there. I'll go through all my scarves, belts, bags, hats, and jewelry with an eye to getting rid of those things that just don't speak to me anymore. Secondly, I'll be sure to arrange everything I'm keeping so that it's easy to see and grab! And as accessories are the easiest way to update one’s wardrobe, it might be time to consider a few special new pieces to add excitement to basics from last winter. Check out Accessories Part 2 below for some ideas. Now let's look at more of what's new for this fall. Here's this week's Top 5:

1. Fall Accessory Trends Part 2

2. Fall 22 Hot Collaborations

3. The Hot Pick -- Halloween Costumes!

4. Hot Shops -- The MoMA Store

5. Brilliant And Funny Angelica Hicks

1. Fall Accessory Trends Part 2

In the last Hot 5, I shared 5 of 10 accessory trends for fall 2022. This week let's look at the remaining 5. Keep in mind that accessories really do have the power to transform your look. Some great earrings, a colorful beautifully patterned scarf or a fun sparkly bag can be just the oomph your old clothes need! And speaking of the power of accessories, be amused by this article from the NY Times.

So what's all the hoopla? This classic earring shape is always ripe for new renditions and we love them all!

On the Fringe! Dramatic swingy movement is back and it always catches our eye.

Join the chain gang! Bold gold chain jewelry continues to trend and we're here for all of it!

Get Stoned! Natural stones and beads are always a winning duo!

Keep Calm And Sparkle On! Why not make a sparkle plenty bag your everyday bag?!

2. Fall '22 Hot Collaborations It's autumn and you know what that means...it's time for some of the year's best designer collaborations! These eagerly awaited events are known for bringing you top designer creativity at really good prices or just a really fun and unexpected pairing. Here are 3 happening right now.

Target's Fall Designer Collections -- Would you believe that Target's designer collaborations have been going on for 20 years?! Many have been amazing and last year I scored some really great pieces that I'm excited to wear again in the coming months. Your chance to score pieces from the new drop is TODAY! If you like the designs of Sergio Hudson, Kika Vargas and La Ligne, go here this minute and start ordering.

Madewell x Rentrayage -- Madewell teamed up with cool sustainable brand Rentrayage to create a limited-edition, 10-piece collection made from excess Madewell textiles, including some super unique, one-of-a-kind patchwork pieces. This one went fast so I'm not sure if there are many pieces left but you can check here.

Supreme x Pat McGrath Labs -- This one had us scratching our heads. The collaboration marks the first nail color by either brand. The long lasting, high-shine nail polish comes sold as a set of three 0.5 oz bottles in red, black and white and includes custom logo nail decals. Made exclusively by McGrath for Supreme. I find her makeup incredible.

3. The Hot Pick -- Halloween Costumes!

I thought it would be timely and helpful if my Hot Pick this week was dedicated to Halloween Costumes. The incredibly popular holiday is a little over 3 weeks away if you can believe it and the pressure is on to come up with something creative yet fairly easy to put together. These 5 come together in various states of complexity and for the most part, can be cobbled together with things in your closet or easily sourced on Amazon. For more ideas check out this list from Allure.

Serena Williams -- In one of her final U.S. Open performances, Serena Williams sparkled — literally. The tennis star wore a star-covered custom Nike dress. It would be pretty simply to take a black fit and flare exercise dress and go crazy with the bedazzler. And don’t forget to coordinate your headband and cuff emblazoned with a Nike swoosh.

Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes from The Dropout -- this has got to be one of the easiest looks to put together. Who doesn't have a black turtleneck and blazer? Just scrape your hair back in a messy bun, add a bright red lip and don't forget the air of desperation along with a green juice!

Queen Charlotte from Bridgerton --This costume is definitely for the maximalist and takes a bit more energy to create but would be fun and well worth it because she's such a great character. It calls for a gigantic towering white wig, dramatic regency-era makeup and jewelry, and a long full skirt. I could really get into character with this one!

Mirabel From Encanto -- Ok I'll admit it, this one comes straight from the influence of my adorable 3 year old granddaughter but the fantastic movie from phenom Lin-Manuel Miranda is truly a charmer and full of great costume ideas. Mirabel, the main character is an easy one to create or you can just buy this.

Artist Frida Kahlo -- For years this one has been my no-fail costume of choice. I'm sure it's not surprising given that all you need to create a convincing Frida is lots of costume jewelry, a red shawl, some strategically placed flowers (real or fake), and a good eyebrow pencil to mimic that bold unibrow. So easy but this year I'm determined to go in another direction hmmm what shall I be?

4. Hot Shops -- The MoMA Store

This week Hot Shops goes to one of my favorite places to shop where I never fail to find perfect gifts (for friends and family and me!). At the MoMA Store there's truly something for everyone! From amazing modern home decor masterpieces to quirky and fun games and toys, the store is the closest thing to one stop shopping I can find. Check out some of the examples I've chosen below.

MoMA De Stijl Wall Clock

MoMA Dusan Dusan Everybody Umbrella

MoMA Mondrian Plush Toy

MoMA Pantone Wide Teacup

MoMA Volta Saekdong Desktop Mobile
