HOT 5 - 6/10/22
Hello Hot Friends,
I'm writing this as I get ready to celebrate my 45th wedding anniversary this evening. Yes, dear readers, you read that correctly! My husband Robert and I (or my ‘tech guy’ as I like to refer to him:) have been together for an unfathomable amount of time. The years have flown and meeting up over a bid whist game in our dorm at Wellesley College seems like it happened yesterday. Whenever I tell the story, someone invariably asks "isn't Wellesley a women's college?" I then have to explain that back in the stone age, the college admitted 10 guys from what was known as "little ivy" schools and they lived for a semester in a different Wellesley dorm. For us, it was pretty much "love at first sight" but that's a story for another newsletter. Happy anniversary to the many June brides out there, and may you have as many beautiful years as I have!

1. Earrings that Scream Summer Is Finally Here!
If there's a better season for earrings I seriously don't know what it is! All of the neck and shoulder revealing styles we live in during the steamy months of summer call for minimal jewelry with the maximum impact. Isn't that the definition of earrings? Summer motifs also lend themselves well to earrings with shells, pearls, sea creatures and bright colors topping the list. You probably have some favorite summer earrings you've pulled out by now but if you need some newness we have just the summer earrings for you! Here are some examples of what we have and for further motivation, I'm offering 25% off all earrings until the end of the month!
2. The Hot Pick - Perfect Gifts For Perfect Hosts
It's the season of quick fun visits to the country or the beach if you're lucky enough to have lovely friends who invite you. And of course, you can't show up to said lovely friends empty-handed, you need a unique and thoughtful gift that won't break the bank. This week's Hot Picks below are all items that I think do just that.
3. Father's Day Gift Ideas
Once again it's time to find a great Father's Day gift for all of the Dads in your life. For an assist with that, I offer some links to what I believe are helpful guides for scoring that perfect Dad gift. As you might imagine the Vogue Guide is a beautifully curated selection of very special and very pricey items. The Skimm's Guide is a little more democratic and covers a wide range of gift options for all types of Dads. New York Magazine's The Cut has my favorite list because they really nail unique gifts for the procrastinators out there, which includes me! And if you like the idea of giving a subscription gift this list is for you. At HOT, we have gorgeous pocket squares by Lalela Scarves which would make a cool and jaunty gift for the sartorial Dads out there. Happy Dad's Day!
4. Is Blue Your Favorite Too?
Did you know that over 80% of all people rank the color blue as their favorite? I happen to be in the other 20% as red is my favorite and has been since childhood. What about you? According to this fascinating article, the color blue's reign has continued uninterrupted since the earliest recorded color studies, which took place in the 1800s. It makes a lot of sense to me as so much of our world is filled with shades of blue and who can argue with the beauty of the sky and the ocean?
5. It's Pride Month!
Is anyone else bothered by the proliferation of "Pride marketing" that just feels performative? This interesting analysis by writer Amy Odell takes a look at the unbelievable amount of Pride merchandise on offer from hundreds of corporations like clockwork every June. I'm sure you agree with me, especially in the current climate, that Pride celebrations should express a deeper commitment than merch, parties, parades, and waving a rainbow-hued flag. This site features Pride merchandise and 100% of every purchase goes to HRC's fight for LGBTQ rights. Enjoy these funny signs and Happy Pride!
Terry xoxo
