HOT 5 - 8/20/22

Hello Hot Readers!

Oh no, summer's almost over! Even though technically we have a month more of summer to go, it always feels like it's actually Labor Day that marks the end of summer. I know plenty of you are happy when the season's heat and humidity end. On the other hand, I long for summer to go on forever! Chalk it up to being born in August, the fun casual nature of the season, or a love of summer menus and breezy fashion. That said, I certainly experience that back-to-school excitement when it comes to fall wardrobe possibilities. Much more about that in the coming weeks, I promise. In the meantime, enjoy these last few sweet weeks of summer!

This week's Hot 5:

1. Pink's Coming In Hot!

2. Hot Shops

3. The Hot Pick -- PJs

4. What's New On Hot?

5. Supastar Serena

1. Pink's Coming In Hot!

Back in January, I reported that the Pantone Color of the Year for 2022 was Very Peri, a spirited blue with violet undertones. Well, it seems people weren't terribly interested in calming blue and instead embraced a very grown up, bold hot pink! In fact, Pierpaolo Piccioli, creative director of Valentino created his own Pantone color and called it Pink PP. It's a sexy hot fuchsia, the polar opposite of Very Peri. And no more boring millennial pink for us, it's shocking pink or nothing! Speaking of shocking pink, it was the Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli who came up with the term way back in 1937 and even created a perfume called Shocking which I'm sure I would love. Read all about it here and then check out Valentino's fall 2022 collection in Pink PP and see if you think it's as stunning as I do!

2. Hot Shops

I thought it might be helpful if I shared some of my favorite shopping resources right here in my bi-monthly Hot 5s. I've always been a really keen shopper and in fact if shopping were a sport I'd definitely be on the Olympic Team! :) My real super power is finding special items at really good prices. We all know that shopping has changed drastically in the last few years and a lot of our shopping needs have changed along with it. We also need to be mindful of the importance of conscious consuming. I'll be sharing resources that help us do that. First up is & Other Stories, a part of the Swedish retail giant H&M and little sister to COS. Designed in Paris, Stockholm and Los Angeles, the brand offers clothing, shoes, accessories, skincare and makeup that is trendy but well made and extremely wearable. Most items clock in around $120 and I always find really great pieces on sale. Don't be put off by the young trendy vibe, there's lots here to love. Here are a few examples:

Band Collar Blouse $129

Sweater $99

Belted Trench $219

Oversized Quilted Jacket $149

Clogs $129

Puff Sleeve Dress $119

3. The Hot Pick -- PJs

Are you a PJs girl like me? Pajamas have been my sleepwear of choice since I was in high school! I could live in them and believe me, I did during our recent crazy covid days. I love how versatile pajamas are. I especially love to take a pair when I travel. They're always appropriate, and comfortable and can be used so many ways, including wearing them to the beach or out on the town! Check out the pajamas I've chosen for this week's Hot Pick:

4. What's New On Hot?

For fall I'll be adding a new category to the website -- small bags and wallets! I'm excited about this because these are accessories that are always needed and there are so many fashionably cool new products in this space. I'm starting the category with these 3 with more to come this fall. Let me know if there are specific items you're keen to see.

And I've recently added a few new pieces of jewelry that will help you with any of your end-of-summer outfit zhuzhing needs.

5. Supastar Serena

What's left to say about Serena? We knew it was coming but didn't it still surprise and mark the end of an era when she recently announced her plans to retire? The September Issue of Vogue Magazine has an exclusive first-person account by Serena about motherhood and ambition that is an honest, beautifully written piece. Not only is Serena an indomitable athlete and a striking style setter, she's a brilliant businesswoman and a fierce and caring mother. Yes, she's all that and a true heroine for our times. I'm sure we'll continue to hear about Serena in whatever her next chapter is. Enjoy the story!

Terry xoxo
