HOT 5 - 8/20/21
Dear HOT Friends,
Well, here we are, winding down from our hot vaxx summer which started out with a bang and is kind of ending with a whimper. What a strange summer it's been! Unpredictable in every way; the weather, freedom to travel, global climate disasters, destabilized governments, and the never-ending politicization of a deadly virus. Maybe next year we'll have a "normal" summer?
The end of August is always such an in-between time when it comes to style. It's still hot (even hotter as we've just heard it's the hottest summer on record!) but we can't help but be excited about the upcoming fall season with all the new clothes and accessories that go with it. No doubt this stems from all those years being pumped about new school clothes. They say you're either someone who hates to see summer end or you can't wait for it to be over. Can you be both??.
This week’s HOT 5:
1. I'd Love Your Help!
2. How About Some Fun?
3. More Than A Style Statement
4. Do It Like Iris!
5. Don't Miss King Richard
1. I'd Love Your Help!
I've been busy researching new products to feature on HOT with the help of various trend reports, social media accounts, and magazine articles, like this one from Vogue. Many of the pieces that will hit the site soon will be based on these trends. Another great way to figure out which products to buy is to get input from fabulous readers like you. Here's a quick survey to glean what you might want to buy next from the House of Terrance. And to motivate participation I'll be randomly choosing 1 respondent from the first 10 to receive a free piece of HOT jewelry! I thank you in advance for your help.
2. How About Some Fun?
Speaking of jewelry trends, one that I especially like was written about in last week's NY Times Style Section. It was all about sweet, colorful, camp-inspired jewelry which was last worn in the late 90s and early 2000s. There's so much nostalgia this summer for trends that were hot over 20 years ago and it makes sense when you think about all the TV shows from those years that everyone has been binging. I knew it was a thing when my extremely stylish friend who always has her finger on the style pulse turned up in the fun bright yellow ring pictured above. It's in the Pantone color of the year too!
3. More Than A Style Statement
I really enjoyed this mesmerizing piece entitled Nail Art Is More Than A Style Statement It's Black History And Culture, written by Asia Milia Ware for New York Magazine's The Cut. The article is a continuation of the website's recent stellar job showcasing and celebrating beauty that's specific to black culture. Rarely seen in mainstream media, these stories and revelations have been truly refreshing to observe. Hats off to new editor Lindsey Peoples Wagner, keep up the great work!
4. Do It Like Iris!
The amazing nonagenarian Iris Apfel, iconic style doyenne for decades, will turn 100 years old at the end of the month! Still going strong, her newest endeavor is a collaboration with online eyeglasses boutique Zenni Optical. Here you'll find the kind of fashion-forward OTT frames that Iris is known for. Best of all the prices are really great with no frame costing more than $40. There's no doubt that Iris has mastered the accessories game and how great is it that at almost 100 she still cares to play it!
5. Don't Miss King Richard
This trailer got me really excited to see the coming HBO Max biographical drama entitled King Richard. Slated for November release, the movie stars Will Smith as Richard Williams father of the remarkable Williams sisters. It's based on the inspirational story of what it took to raise two of the most gifted athletes of all time who changed the sport of tennis forever. The release of the movie was postponed for a year due to the pandemic. I'm truly excited about this one!
Enjoy what's left of summer and I'll be back right after Labor Day with lots of fresh news about Fall fashion and style, including HOT new products on House of Terrance!
Terry xoxo
