HOT 5 - 5/29/21
Happy Memorial Day Weekend HOT Friends!
Well, here we are at the unofficial start of summer. But doesn't it feel like so much more than that? Like maybe It's the official start of life? Here in New York City, the excitement is palpable. You can feel it on the streets, in the parks, and definitely in stores, where I've seen people lined up with their arms full of clothes to purchase. And I must have overheard these words a dozen times this week: "it all feels so normal!" With very low infection rates, mask mandates loosening and most of us vaccinated it looks like it's the start of something close to normal life, hallelujah!
Here is the HOT 5 (a little heavy on beauty this week!):
1. Post Pandemic Beauty
2. Are You Using Any Of These Beauty Winners?
3. Zara Beauty Is Here!
4. Time For Summer Reading
5. This Made Me Laugh
1. Post Pandemic Beauty
Not only are women buying new clothes by the armful, according to the trackers of such info, they're making up for lost time in beauty purchases too. According to this article from the New York Times, women have found that after a year of wearing less makeup or no makeup at all they're not ready to come back to a full-on made-up face. Instead, women are choosing softer, more natural looks. I can vouch for many of the products recommended in the article especially those by Hourglass and Ilia. And here's some great advice to keep in mind if you desire a major style change like hair color, a bold new haircut, or even a tattoo.
2. Are You Using Any Of These Beauty Winners?
Allure is famous for its Reader's Choice Awards which go way back to the mid-'90s! Linda Wells initiated the awards to help readers choose amongst the vast array of products on the market which 25 years later have only increased exponentially. It's a great place to start when you're looking for new products. I pretty much always check it out to see what I should be considering before I buy. The list covers all price points and is broken down by the different beauty categories including the year's major product breakthroughs! Here is the list for 2021.
3. Zara Beauty Is Here!
Did you know that Zara, the beloved fast-fashion retailer of well-priced on-trend clothing just launched a new line of fabulous makeup? Although I have definitely tried to shop less at the fast-fashion behemoth due to worries about its sustainability practices and working conditions, I admit to being constantly tempted by the affordable and fun interpretations of the season's designer trends. I was happy to find out that its new makeup line is made of high quality, clean formulas, and the best part? Everything is refillable! The prices start at $8.00 and max out at $26 so trying everything won't break the bank. I bought the soft powdery Ultimatte mat lipstick in Hero and I love it! See my pout above.
4. It's Time For Summer Reading!
Is there anything better than reading a good book outdoors in summer? Either sprawled out in a beach chair by the shore or swinging slowly in a hammock under bright green dappled leaves, it's one of the true pleasures of summer. I'm always on the hunt for the perfect summer read - something fun, engrossing, and a real page-turner. Maybe it can be found on one of these two lists from Literary Hub and The New York Times Book Review. Happy summer reading!
5. This Made Me Laugh
I saw this on Tik Tok (full disclosure, I really dislike Tik Tok but a blogger I follow posted it) and ok it contains three things that I really like --James Cordon, Helen Mirren, and rap battles so I was already primed to be into it. I had to share it with you dear readers because it made me laugh, a lot. Enjoy!
Hope your holiday weekend isn't a complete washout!
Terry xoxo
PS. 50% OFF ALL MASKERAIDES! You still have to wear your mask in many places. We had to wear them at the exhibits in the New York Botanical Gardens. I loved having my mask handy.
