HOT 5 - 6/11/21
Hello HOT Friends,
If the weather we've been having lately is any indication, full-on summer is here! June is such a wonderful month, the true start of summer with Pride celebrations, the first barbeques of the season, Father's Day, weekend getaways, and the start of Summer Fridays.
This week’s HOT 5 is here to help with all of that:
1. Who Will You Be Style-Wise This Summer?
2. Personal Style is Better Than Any Trend
3. You Need These Summer Earrings!
4. Happy Pride Month
5. Let's Not forget Dear Old Dad!
1. Who Will You Be Style-Wise This Summer?
I've been thinking a lot about personal style lately. I don't know if it's motivated by the sense of new beginnings that we're experiencing right now or something more mundane like summer's here and I need some new clothes that aren't sweatpants or old T-shirts! :) Perhaps I'm not alone in these musings because there's been quite an uptick in respondents to the HOT Style Quiz lately. Has our style changed during a year when we barely expressed it, whatever it might be? Have we suddenly been freed from an out-of-touch notion of our personal style? Are we feeling we might be different from who we were 18 months ago? Maybe we're all just ready to rethink who we are style-wise. HOT gives your responses customized feedback and advice with this in mind. If you're looking for some direction on your personal style going forward you can check it out here.
2. Personal Style Is Better Than Any Trend
As you dear readers know HOT believes fervently in the power of self-expression through dress. Consequently, I really enjoyed reading this recent article on vogue.com in which we were introduced to a stylish group of people for whom dressing stylishly and expressively during the pandemic was life-affirming. Contrary to what a lot of the pundits have predicted (like the death of dressing up or the end of heels, suits, and body con dressing) these people are embracing dressing and expressing their own sense of style now more than ever. Perhaps you'll find the examples in the article a bit over the top but we can't deny how inspirational it is to see their creativity and dedication. The last sentence in the article is "If you want to feel good, look good". We couldn't agree more!
3. You Need These Summer Earrings!
It's no secret that I absolutely LOVE earrings in all of their face-framing, outfit-zhuzing glory! And summer might just be their most powerful season. There's something about bare necks and shoulders and wearing fewer clothes, in general, that calls out for a pair of bodacious earrings. Not to mention all of the great design themes that mark our summer fashion choices like the beach, the woods, and all manner of flora and fauna! On HOT we have so many great pairs that can make your summer outfits even better and this week we're offering earrings at 30% off - including vintage!
4. Happy Pride Month
June means we celebrate our LBGTQ population the world over. But celebration on our part should express an even deeper commitment than parties, parades, and wild colorful costumes, something more than waving a rainbow-hued flag. One way we can be more supportive of the LBGTQ community is to get the nomenclature correct. I found this article from NPR very helpful. The goal is to help people communicate accurately and respectfully with one another which is a crucial way to signal true acceptance. Happy Pride Month everyone!
5. Let's Not Forget Dear Old Dad!
Does anyone else find it so much harder to shop for Father's Day vs. Mother's Day? I know I struggle every year and it only seems to get harder. This year I'm determined to find some unique and fun gift solutions so I started seriously perusing all the different gift guides I've been receiving for the last month. I'm sharing them here in case you're in the same situation. I'm including my favorite treatment products for men (now 25% off!), really great of the moment tech products for the home, gifts for every budget, gifts for dads with hobbies, and lastly a beautifully curated list with extra special gifts for the dads in your life You're welcome!
Terry xoxo
